Redmi Note 7S Review

Redmi Note 7S Review

Redmi has been Xiaomi's budget series for quite a while. It is one of the most popular smartphone series in India. Xiaomi is constantly launching new smartphones in the Redmi series to stay ahead of the competition. A few months ago, Shawna launched Redmi Note 7 (Review) and Redmi Note 7 Pro (review). Both of these models were sold in the price segment of Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000.

Xiaomi has now launched Redmi Note 7S under this series. Speaking of specification, the Redmi Note 7S smartphone uses the same processor as Redmi Note 7. Redmi Note 7S has a 48-megapixel camera like Redmi Note 7 Pro. Did we test this to know that Redmi Note 7S is the best smartphone, let's know about it.

Redmi Note 7S Design
Rami notes 7 S looks like Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Like the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7S also has a glass design with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 used on the front and back panels. This gives a premium look to the phone which is not common in this price segment.

This phone looks premium by the glossy back panel but fingerprints fall easily on the back panel of the phone. Xiaomi has given a case in the retail box which fits well. The case protects fingers from fingerprints. Looking at the front side, the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Note 7 Pro look similar to those that make it difficult to differentiate between these three.

The three models have a big display with a small notch. Xiaomi named it "dot not". The frame is still made of plastic and the placement of the buttons is also the same. We found that the power button is easily reached by hand while the volume button has been placed slightly above it. The frame of the Redmi Note 7S is winding through which the phone easily fits into the hands.

The upper part of the phone has a 3.5 mm headphone jack with an IR emitter and a secondary microphone. IR emitter is a nifty feature that controls your applications using the Mi remote app. There are two grills at the bottom of the phone, out of which only one has a loudspeaker. Apart from this, a USB Type-C port is also provided.

Redmi Note 7S has a hybrid dual-sim tray on the left side. In this case, you can either use two Nano-SIM or one SIM and one MicroSD card. The hybrid dual-sim slot can be a little frustrating, and that too when there is a dedicated microscope card slot in some random device.

Like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7S has also been given a dual rear camera setup on the back panel. The camera module is slightly embossed. Dual-LED flash is found just below the camera module. We found that the fingerprint scanner is well-placed and the hands reach the sensor easily.

Compared to glossy rear panels, the fingerprint scanner has a matte finish. Xiaomi has released three color variants of Redmi Note 7S - Onyx Black, Ruby Red, and Sapphire Blue. We have the Onyx Black Color Variant of the Redmi Note 7 S for the review. A 10-watt charger is available in the retail box of the Redmi Note 7S.

Specifications of Redmi Note 7S
The Radmi Note 7S has a 6.3-inch display, especially the lower and lower border near Camera Noch. Display supports full-HD + (1080x2340 pixels) resolution. Does sports. The display's viewing angle and color reproduction are good. Different display modes are given on the phone, not only that, but you can also adjust the color temperature according to your choice.

Redmi Note 7S has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, recall that this chipset was also used in Redmi Note 7. We have seen that this processor has also been used in Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 (review) which is also priced in this price segment. Snapdragon 660 processor is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 675 chipset in Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Xiaomi launches two variants of the Redmi Note 7S with a 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variants, with the other 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variants. The price of Radmi Note 7 S3 GB RAM variants is Rs. 10,999, while its premium variant is sold for Rs. 12,999. Connectivity includes USB Type-C port, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and four satellite navigation system support.

Our Redmi Note 7S review unit runs on M7 10.3 based on Android 9 Pie, as well as the latest May Security Patch. MIUI is very much customized however, you will feel like it before if you are upgrading from another Xiaomi smartphone. If there are any changes to the settings, the Search button will help you.

Theme support is also available in MIUI, and with this help, you can customize the look of the software. There is plenty of software in the Redmi Note 7S. In the smartphone, Amazon, Facebook, Netflix, DeliTint, Twitter, Opera News, and Opera Mini will pre-install pre-installed. Xiaomi has its own app, such as App Store, Music, Me Video, Me Drop, My Community and Me. We found that the Music and Me video app is a little spammy because they have been sending notifications all day long. We have covered most of the shortcuts and features of the MUI 10 in the review of our Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Redmi Note 7S Performance, Battery Life and Camera
The Redmi Note 7S is a capable smartphone that handles all the tokens in December easily. It was easy to multitask between many apps while scrolling in the menu. The Redmi Note 7S did not slow down at all. The fingerprint sensor also works fast. The phone has a Face Unlock feature, it works well in the light but in the dark, it takes more time to unlock the phone.

Redmi Note 7S has support for Widevine L1 DRM, which will allow you to enjoy Netflix and Amazon Prime videos in HD resolution. The speaker comes out loud and we enjoy watching the content on this smartphone. A little bit of the speaker

We saw PUBG mobile playing on the phone and it runs smoothly on the phone middle setting. After playing for about 20 minutes, we found that the fingerprint gets slightly warmer above the sensor. Like Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7S also has a 4,000 mAh battery and also provides the same battery life. In our HD Video Loop Test, the Redmi Note 7 S gave it 13 hours and 17 minutes, which is a good score.

The phone charges faster. The charger that comes with the phone charges 35 percent of the phone in half an hour and 65 percent in an hour. It charges the phone completely within two hours. Radmi notes 7 S Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 comes with standard support, but for that, you have to buy a compatible charger separately.

> One major difference is that the camera setup of the Redmi Note 7 S is different from the Redmi Note 7. Redmi Note 7S has two rear cameras. There is a 48-megapixel primary camera with an F / 1.8 aperture with an LED flash. It has a 5-megapixel secondary camera. 13-megapixel front camera for selfie has been given.

The camera app is the same as we have seen in other Xiaomi phones and it also has AI Scene Recognition Support with HDR and Color Filters. Different camera modes, including Portrait, Panorama, Night, and Pro, are also given. During a shoot with Redmi Note 7S, the camera AI comes into action and it accurately detects plants, buildings, and animals. Against the light, if you are shooting, then it automatically energizes HDR. Color reproduction was good in pictures.

Macro shots were correct, but the phone does not show color accurately when taking a picture of flowers. We also found that the edge of our subject was not as sharp as seen in the photo shot with the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Portrait mode uses a secondary camera and we get a good Bokeh effect but there is no way to adjust blur level. Edge Detection was good but the Redmi Note 7S over-exposed some shots.

Low-light performance was also good but the picture was getting fine grain. There was a lack of detail in the picture of the object at distances. Night mode is given in the phone which makes the photos bright but simultaneously shows grain in pictures. The pictures captured in Selfie were good enough and we found that the AI was also useful in the phone. Even though HDR was enabled, most of our selfies were background overexposed.

The primary camera is capable of recording the video of 1080p resolution but you also have the option to record 30 frames per second or 60 frames per second. Electronic image stabilization is available on the phone but it is not as effective in low light.

Our decision
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S and Note 7 are almost identical when it comes to their hardware. But the main differences between the two are their rear camera module. If you do not care about camera performance then the Redmi Note 7 provides a similar experience at a lower cost. You can also consider Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 (review) and it is available at Redmi Note 7 S.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a phone with good camera performance then Xiaomi Mi A2 (review) can be a great option for you, which is equipped with stock Android. If you can spend a little more money then Redmi Note 7 Pro is a very good option.
